(10/08/2007) - More rule clarifications
·
There are NO
Leg-Byes, but yes one can get runout if they are out of the crease.
·
There ARE Byes, no
matter if it's a wide ball or a regular ball. The batsman can take runs if both
the batsman and the wicket-keeper miss the ball. But again, one can get runout
if they are out of the crease.
·
A max of two runs is only awarded, once the ball crosses the boundary
behind the wicket-keeper, in case it doesn't, the batsmen can take runs as they
see fit.
·
Be the ball be a Regular ball, Wide ball, No Ball, Bye, or a Leg
Bye. Either batsman is always at the risk of a run-out if they are out of the
crease.
(10/05/2007) – Umpires,
some rules that need to be clarified.
9. Wides |
||
|
9.1 |
On a wide, one extra will be added to the total and
another ball will be bowled in the over. Any additional runs scored off the wide
will also be scored as wides and will stand in addition to the one wide
extra. |
|
9.2 |
Any ball pitching
outside the leg stump and moving farther away from the batsman will be called
a wide ball. A ball that comes in contact with the bat, or with the body of
the batsman while in his regular batting position, will not be called a wide.
In such a case, if the umpire had already called a wide, the umpire shall
revoke the call of wide ball. |
|
9.3 |
Any ball clearly
outside the off stump at such a distance to make it virtually impossible for
the batsman to play a normal stroke from where he would normally be standing,
will be called a wide by the umpire. This is not mitigated by the batsman
moving to or away from the ball. However, a wide shall not be called if the
bat comes in contact with the ball. In such a case, if the umpire had already
called a wide, the umpire shall revoke the call of wide ball. |
Now according to rule 9.1, if the ball crosses the 2 line boundry
behind the wicket keeper, the two runs will be counted on top off the wide and
another ball will be bowled in the over.
Some No Ball and Leg-bye rules need to be introduced. Leg before
wicket and leg-byes:
13. Leg Byes
|
13.1 |
LBW is not
considered as OUT due to the complicated nature of the decision. |
|
13.2 |
As a result,
Leg Byes are not awarded. |
|
13.3 |
Since there are
no leg-byes, there is no run-outs on leg byes. However, a batsman can be stumped
out, either by the keeper or a close-in fielder if the batsman stepped out of
the crease to play a shot and failed to return in time. |
Some No-Ball situations also need clarification. No-balls
situations:
1) Batsman in normal stance* and ball passes over his head is a
no ball; use leg umpire's call on this; umpire can overrule leg umpire.
2) Batsman in normal stance and ball passes over his shoulder
after a bounce is a warning; if it recurs within the same over, it is a
no-ball; If a ball was given no-ball earlier in the over due to case-1 above,
then this will be a no-ball and not a warning.
i.e. a second bouncer (within one over) above shoulder level is
ALWAYS a no-ball. The first one maybe a no-ball or a warning depending on the
height.
3) Batsman in normal stance and ball is over his waist full toss
is a no ball; use leg umpire's call on this; can overrule leg umpire
* normal stance meaning standing upright at the crease.
General rules:
Please refer to the international cricket laws in the ICC
website @ http://www.icc-cricket.com/icc/rules/ Most ICC rules are applicable to our League.
However, there may be some exceptions that are not listed in RCCL website. If
you notice something and feel that it is explicitly required to specify on our
website, please let me or Ram know about it.

This match was aborted in the 7th
over due to un-suitable weather conditions. In such a situation Rule 4.3
of the League rules was applied and executed.
4.3 |
If light or weather
conditions make it impossible for the team batting second to complete their
innings, the result will be based on each teams's score in their innings at
the end of the last over completed before play is suspended. |
The last over completed was: 6th
over.
Team 2’s score at the end of the 6th
over : 28/4
Team 4’s score at the end of the 6th
over : 35/5
There were a some disagreements as to
why the Duckworth Lewis method wasn’t applied in this scenario and why the
results were just based on the scores of the individual teams.
Going forward, please keep in mind that the Duckworth Lewis method will not be used in situations like these rather
the result will be based on Rule 4.3, that is the result will
be based on each teams's score in their innings at the end of the last over
completed before play is suspended.
The reasons for that are as
follows:
• The Duckwoth Lewis method is derived by a complex formula of adding the runs in the highest scoring overs of the first batting side to arrive at a revised target for the team batting second. We have limited resources to keep track of scores in such a manner.
• This system applies only if the team batting second has batted a minimum of 25 overs. Our matches only consist of 12 overs.
For future matches please keep in mind Rules 2.2, 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 for aborted
and/or delayed matches.
(9/18/2007) - One very IMPORTANT announcement. I'm sending this out since
I noticed a lot of un-sportsmanlike conduct on the field yesterday.
Captains shall advise members of their
respective teams that the Umpires’ decision is final and binding
in regards to the playing of the game. Any individual acting in an ungentlemanly
or un-sportsmanlike manner or using profanity shall not
be tolerated by the Umpires nor should it be tolerated by the team to
which that individual belongs.
Disciplinary action shall be taken by the team itself against the
offending player.
Now for the rest of the updates:
For the match tonight, eventhough the forecast calls for rain,
everybody should plan to meet up in the South Field by 5:30. In case the match
is delayed, an email will be sent out to the respective teams for makeup
matches.
Yesterday marked the beginning of the cricket league. Following
were the stats for yesterday's match.
1st Match - Played at North Field, on 17th September 2007 -
day/night (12-over match)
Result Team 5 won by 47 runs
Toss Team 5, who chose to bat first.
Match notes :
Team
5 : 65 runs in 12 overs. Extras 11
Team
3 : 19 runs in 8 overs. Extras 4
Some other updates:
Team Rosters have been updated, with the
addition of new players. Now that all teams have 11 players, it will be easier
for the teams to meet the minimum requirement of 7 players.
(9/14/2007) - Due
to delays in equipment delivery, the schedules of the matches has been altered.
We will still have two matches per week, but they just won't be on the same
day.
Basically we'll have matches on both Monday's and Tuesday's.
Please get in touch with your captains to coordinate the days of play.
Once again, the teams that have the WEEK OFF are responsible for
providing Umpires and score-keepers. Those selected for these tasks will be
emailed separately.
Volunteers selected to assist in these games will need to be on
the fields an hour prior to the beginning of play, so basically be on the
fields at 5:00pm.
Rule Reminder: Rule 2.3 from the League rules posted on the
website.
2.3 |
A written list
of the players taking part in the match must be provided to the Umpires prior
to the toss being taken. A copy of the list must also be provided to the
umpires at the same time. If the list contains more than ten names, the
playing ten must be clearly indicated. If the ten players stated to actually
play in the match are not so indicated, the first ten players on the list
will be assumed to be the starting ten. In case, an uneven number of
players show up for each team, the team with the higher number of players,
will be at an advantage. |
Matches start at 6:00pm sharp, I recommend the Team
Captains to make sure that all their players are available and ready to play 30
mins prior to beginning play.
The new schedule of matches will look as follows:
(9/14/2007) - Thank you to all those who
registered for the Fall 2007 RC Cricket League. The schedule, rules, and
rosters for the fall league are now posted. Please see the links to the left.
Note:
Changes to the Schedule
1) Schedule has been modified to consist of 5 teams of 10
players each.
2) All matches will be held on Mondays only starting at
6:00pm. No matches will be played on Tuesdays.
There
will be a practice session held on Sunday, September 16th. Practice will
begin at 2:00pm in the North and
South fields across the Rockwell Recreation Center. Please participate if your
schedule permits. This is a great opportunity for teams to gather up and have a
warm up session before the season begins.
Teams that have the WEEK OFF are responsible for providing
umpires and scorekeepers for the ongoing matches for that week.
(9/12/2007)
- Registration deadline is today, September 12th 2007. Matches start next
Monday, September 17th, see schedule on the left. Please submit all
registration forms to the RC Recreation center.
(8/29/2007) - Registration forms for the RC Cricket League are now available. Please sign up , as Cricket seems to be a popular sport and the amount of summer play time left is minimal.
