Rockwell Collins Model Aviators is a Collins Aerospace sponsored group of radio
controlled aircraft builders, pilots, and enthusiasts. Club meetings
are held monthly on the first Thursday of each month in the main plant
cafeteria, building 140. Employee badges and property passes
are not required for access to this facility. During the winter months,
typically November - March, build sessions are held at the main plant
cafeteria on the second Thursday of every month. Members bring in their
current projects to these build sessions to work on and offer advice to
other builders and to beginners. At the end of the build session season,
a Brown-Bag Beauty Contest and Model Display is held where members show
off their aircraft and the general public votes on them. In the past, Rockwell Collins Model
Aviators also produced a monthly newsletter " FlightLine ".
Rockwell Collins Model Aviators leases an area of privately-owned land one mile north of the intersection of Central City Road and Alice Road from which members fly their aircraft. To be able to fly at the field, a
member must have current AMA insurance and pass a one-time proficiency test.
For the beginner, a flight training program is available with knowledgeable
and experienced flight instructors.
Rockwell Collins Model Aviators is an Academy of Model Aeronautics chartered
member (Charter Club 3257). The charter provides the club, members,
flying site owner, and spectators with liability and medical insurance.
Those eligible for membership in Rockwell Collins Model Aviators are current or
retired Collins Aerospace employees and their spouses, contract workers,
and coop students.
To join Rockwell Collins Model Aviators, contact one of the
club officers or come to one of
the monthly meetings.
